View Article  Hillcrest Farmers Market, San Diego

We cannot visit California without a trip to a farmers market. This one, San Diego’s Hillcrest Farmers Market, is open 9 am-1 pm Sundays, rain nor shine. We liked it even better than the ones in Ocean Beach and Carlsbad in terms of variety of produce and assorted food products.

In addition to blood oranges, radishes and other transportable fare, we purchased tea and spices at Conscious Cookery, a small yet stellar stand with a variety of spices, teas, beans and dried corn products. I see that the owner of the stand also has a blog that is very well done.

We’ll be back—and next time we'll bring more money.

View Article  World Baseball Classic Report: Japan Beats Korea 6-0

Have to admit, we weren’t exactly thrilled with anticipation about last night’s Korea-Japan semifinal. This was supposed to be USA’s spot, but our billionaires just didn’t have the heart to make it that far. The weather started off ominous, but the game went six-plus before the skies opened and delayed the game about an hour. We had had enough and headed for dry land. By that time, Japan was ahead 5-0, eventually winning 6-0.

The Korean fans outnumbered their Japanese counterparts, but Japan—favored to make the semis and possible the finals—was just too polished to lose s third time to Korea. Too much pitching and clutch hitting for Korea to handle. Sadly, the noisy and excited Korean fans went home unhappy as their stars suffered their first loss in the entire World Baseball Classic.

So, it sets up a Japan-Cuba final. Not sure what to think—two oddly matched teams. Cuba’s passion against Japan’s precision play.
