So, seated in front of me on a flight from Seattle to LAX was Arianna
Huffington, she of political gadfly fame. This is a clip of her in
pre-flight repose, feet up on the wall attached to her Blackberry. On
her (rather loud call) she did refer to herself in third person which
is rather odd, but part of the faux-celebrity lifestyle.

There he was, in all his glory, the best baseball player not in the Hall of Fame: Peter Rose. Rose was signing autographs at the Field of Dreams store at the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace in Thursday, April 5

On one of them more interesting travel days we've had in recent memory, we boarded the Backbeat Tours bus (an old bus reconfigured for modern day fun) headed for Graceland. Truly one of the highlights was on onboard entertainment from Memphis Jones. The clip is a bit bumpy reflecting the condition of the road between downtown and Graceland.

We may soon forget our few hours at Graceland. We may even forget the Civil Rights Game. One thing's for sure: we will not forget our visit to the Civil Rights Museum. The museum is on the site of the Lorraine Hotel, where Dr. Martin Luther King was shot in 1967. Many people know where they were when JFK was shot; I remember like it was yesterday where I was when Dr. King was shot.
Inside, where I respected the policy of no video, you see the Freedom Riders' burned-out bus, the bus on which Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and a replica of the lunch counter where a sit-in was staged to protest segregation. There are pictures, videos, artifacts and more.... Across the street is the spot from which James Early Ray, Dr. King's assassin, snuffed out one our nation's greatest heroes. The Civil Rights Museum is worth the trip.

The lobby of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis was a feast for St. Louis Cardinals fans a few hours prior to the Civil Rights Game. Featured here are Albert Pujols, Adam Wainwright, Scott Spiezio (yep, the soul patch really is red) and the tandem of Scott Rolen (left) and Jim Edmonds (right) who ducked into a store waiting for the shuttle bus to take them to Autozone Park.

You can’t go to Memphis without going to Graceland. Here’s a short clip to whet your appetite and get a feel for this strange and wondrous place.
Music is “It Don’t Rock Like Elvis” from the Nashville Session Players (it’s podsafe)
