Yes, we are food celeb junkies. We watched Gordon Ramsey's new show in the UK last week, and it was pretty wild. He actually dropped the F bomb more than "Goodfellas" and The Sopranos combined. Certainly would not work on US TV networks.
A long Tube ride landed us at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, a restaurant that employs disadvantaged youth to inspire them to have better lives. Jamie was nowhere in sight, but the place looks quite good. Sadly, they don't take a lot of walk-in diners--reservations appear to be a must. Sunday, July 16

So, who else would you expect to throw out the first ball at a game in Toledo. Right, none other than Toledo’s most famous native son, Jamie Farr (aka Max Klinger on M*A*S*H). Speaking of M*A*S*H, Farr is joined by fellow M*A*S*H star Mike Farrell.

According to a list I saw, there are 62 living members of the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. I think it’s out of date, but my goal for 2006 is to capture as many of the living members on video as possible. Given I will be at the World Baseball Classic finals and the MLB All-Star Game, I might get to quite a few. Some will be simple: Billy Williams and Ryne Sandburg are at Cubs spring training. Others, such has Steve Carlton, will be close to impossible. For starters, here are two: Fergie Jenkins and Harmon Killebrew. That leaves me with about 60 more to go… Sunday, January 8

As everyone knows, Howard Stern makes his world debut on Sirius Radio tomorrow (Jan. 9) at 7 am local time (here in Arizona). I won’t be listening as I don’t have a Sirius Radio (and am unlikely to buy one). I return to my question of a few months ago: How quickly will illegal recordings of Stern’s show make their way onto the Net? I doubt Sirius is encrypted, but even if it is, someone will figure out a way to crack/hack the content. I contend, as I have for months, that Stern cannot be as funny as he was for the past few decades if he is uncensored. The big thrill for listeners is to see how much the King of all Media can get away with. His ability to drop the F bomb at will (or let his guests do it) could get very boring very quickly. Nonetheless, I am a big fan and hope he succeeds. I am just not confident he made the right decision to leave "free radio." Monday, May 9

Mike and I drivel on about Arianna Huffington's blog, The Huffington Post, which is proof that you shouldn't quit your day job no matter what sycophants tell you. Also of note, BMI starts a Podcast (see previous post). Mike explains how it could be a sign of things to come. |
